The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Dr. Toni Aubynn, has called on the youth of the Western Region, particularly those in the Jomoro enclave to prepare themselves to take full advantage of the immense employment and entrepreneurial opportunities that will arise from the establishment of the Petroleum Hub.
He made this call during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing on Friday, April 25, 2025.
Dr. Aubynn emphasised PHDC’s firm commitment to promoting local content and prioritising indigenous participation in the multi-billion-dollar project’s construction and operational phases.
“The Petroleum Hub presents a transformative opportunity for young people in this region. They must begin acquiring the relevant skills and training to position themselves for the roles that will become available,” he said.
To facilitate this, Dr. Aubynn revealed that PHDC is engaging Takoradi Technical University and other key technical institutions within the region to develop tailored training programmes. These initiatives aim to equip local youth with the practical knowledge and competencies required to contribute meaningfully to the project’s success.
He also expressed appreciation to the NDC Youth Wing for their formal congratulatory visit and reiterated his unwavering dedication to ensuring that the hub becomes a catalyst for economic development in the Western Region.
As a native of the region, Dr. Aubynn acknowledged the scale and complexity of the $60 billion project but stated that his drive is fuelled by a deep commitment to job creation and regional growth.
In response, Alhaji Mustapha Iddrisu, Western Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, described the projected creation of 780,000 jobs as a game-changing intervention that could significantly curb youth unemployment.
He commended Dr. Aubynn for his longstanding support for youth development and pledged to support the Youth Wing in serving as ambassadors for the project.
Alhaji Iddrisu urged young people in the region to rally behind Dr. Aubynn and embrace the initiative, underscoring its potential to revolutionize the economic landscape of the Western Region.
