The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Dr. Toni Aubynn, has emphasized that the continuation of the Petroleum Hub project reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to advancing national interest by sustaining valuable initiatives inherited from the previous Akufo-Addo administration.

Speaking on Accra-based Radio XYZ on Thursday, April 24, 2025, Dr. Aubynn noted that President Mahama has made it clear that projects beneficial to the Ghanaian people will not be discontinued, regardless of their origin.

According to him, the President has taken a personal interest in the Petroleum Hub project due to its potential to transform Ghana’s economy. In particular, he highlighted the prospect of establishing a fertilizer plant as part of the hub, which would significantly bolster the government’s agricultural agenda.

Dr. Aubynn stressed that the Petroleum Hub aligns seamlessly with the government’s broader strategy to harness and add value to Ghana’s natural resources. He noted that the country must transition from merely exporting raw materials to processing and refining them locally — a vision that the Petroleum Hub is designed to fulfill.

“Successive governments have expressed the desire to add value to Ghana’s natural resources rather than continue the export of raw materials,” he said. “President Mahama strongly believes in this approach and fully supports the Petroleum Hub initiative. In line with his promise to continue all impactful projects, he has tasked me to see to its successful development.”

Dr. Aubynn also disclosed that investor interest in the project remains strong, expressing confidence in the PHDC’s ability to deliver on expectations under his leadership. He further revealed that through ongoing stakeholder engagements, the government has secured the support of the people of Jomoro for the project’s implementation.
