As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement in the Jomoro Municipality, the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) has undertaken a significant tree-planting initiative in support of the Government of Ghanaโ€™s Make Ghana Green agenda.

On Friday, July 11, 2025, a PHDC delegation led by the Head of Operations and Projects, Afo Minlah, Esq., joined teachers and students of Annor Adjaye Senior High School in Ezinlibo to plant 300 tree seedlings at both the school and PHDCโ€™s project office in Nawule.

Guided by personnel from the Forestry Commission, the team planted four tree speciesโ€”oil palm, acacia, mahogany, and coconutโ€”carefully selected for their environmental and economic value.

In a brief address before the exercise began, Afo Minlah, Esq., commended the schoolโ€™s proactive stance on environmental conservation and reaffirmed PHDCโ€™s commitment to fostering lasting partnerships that enhance the physical environment of educational institutions.

She encouraged the students to go beyond planting and take responsibility for nurturing the seedlings to maturity, noting that PHDC would periodically assess the progress of the trees. She further advised the students to avoid indiscipline and remain focused on their academic goals, stressing that education is key to unlocking their future potential.

Remarks by the Assistant Headmistress

The Assistant Headmistress in charge of Administration, Mrs. Ethel Francis-Eshun, who had the honour of planting the first tree, expressed the schoolโ€™s appreciation for the partnership with PHDC. She pledged the schoolโ€™s commitment to ensuring the trees are well cared for and thriving by the following year.

Mrs. Francis-Eshun also appealed to PHDC for support in completing the schoolโ€™s Home Economics and Visual Arts blocks, as well as the ongoing construction of a basketball court.

Donation to the School

In recognition of the studentsโ€™ and teachersโ€™ active participation, PHDC presented them with assorted drinks and biscuits as a token of appreciation for their enthusiasm and dedication during the exercise.

Tree Planting at PHDC Project Office

The PHDC team also undertook a tree-planting exercise at the corporationโ€™s Nawule project office. Staff, led by the Community Liaison Manager, pledged to maintain and nurture the seedlings to ensure their healthy growth.

Monitoring of 2024 Tree Planting Projects

Ahead of the current exercise, the PHDC team conducted a monitoring tour of communities that participated in its 2024 tree-planting initiative. These included Ellenda, Bonyere, Bonyere Junction, Ezinlibo, and Ndumsoazo. The team was pleased to observe that a significant portion of the 800 trees planted last year are flourishing.

The PHDC delegation was led by Afo Minlah, Esq., and included Celestina Deku (Spatial Planning Manager), Ernest Kofie (Community Liaison Manager), Emmanuel Nvojo (Senior Community Liaison Officer), Adom Anorkwah (Local Content Officer), and other officers from the Jomoro project office.
