The CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Charles Owusu, on Wednesday, October 16th, paid a working visit to the location of Africa’s first Petroleum Hub in Jomoro, in the Western Nzema Traditional Area of the Western Region. He led a team of Japanese, South Korean, and some Ghanaian investors to tour the hub enclave and familiarize themselves with proposals for the siting of key and ancillary infrastructural facilities earmarked under the Petroleum Hub.

The first point of call for the CEO and investors was the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Ezinlibo in Jomoro. Here, the CEO assured the investors not to be apprehensive about security concerns for their investments within the enclave. He stated that the FOB would serve as a security buffer for the Petroleum Hub infrastructure.

As part of his itinerary, Charles Owusu held a briefing and map interpretation session for the investors at the PHDC office in Jomoro. He explained the reason for choosing Jomoro for the petroleum hub project and outlined the significant job creation opportunities for the people of Jomoro and Ghanaians in general. He also detailed some financial and fiscal benefits they could accrue should they invest in the Hub.

Later, the CEO toured some of the sites earmarked for the construction of jetties and storage infrastructure at Bonyere, as well as the location for Phase One of the Petroleum Hub project at Bokakole, all within Jomoro.

On the final leg of his tour, the CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Western Nzema Traditional Area, Awulae Annor Adjaye III, at his residence in Beyin.

He underscored his people’s dire need for job opportunities to sustain their livelihoods and urged the investors to hasten their efforts to come and invest in the various opportunities the hub project presents. Awulae stated that providing jobs for the people of Jomoro is his major priority.

The CEO of PHDC, Charles Owusu, assured that the processes were far advanced for the payment of compensations in time for the lands to be cleared for work to commence.

The government, in June, signed a $12 billion agreement with the TCP-UIC consortium to implement the initial phase of the Petroleum Hub Project, the first of its kind in Africa. A groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 1 of the multi-phase mega project was held in Jomoro in August 2024. The project is expected to create over 780,000 direct and indirect jobs for the people of Jomoro and Ghanaians in general. It is also anticipated to boost economic growth significantly across the country.
