The Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD) has organized an Energy Policy Townhall for energy sector representatives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Accra on Friday, 11th October.

The aim is to discuss the party’s manifesto policies for the energy sector and to engage industry players on proposed plans to transform the energy sector.

A Spokesperson for the NPP Manifesto Committee on Energy and former Deputy Energy Minister, who is now the Tourism Minister, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, said the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), which is a product of government’s policy aimed at boosting private sector participation in the petroleum and petrochemical industry, is poised to transform Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector through job creation, enhance the SME sector and promote economic growth.

He said there are proposed plans to repeal and re-enact the existing National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Act (Act 913), which will enhance the downstream regulator’s capacity to develop regulations to promote an export-oriented Petroleum Hub and to help manage the entire downstream petroleum sector more effectively.

Ghana’s Petroleum Hub Development comprises both key and ancillary infrastructure. These include three refineries of 300,000 bpsd minimum each, storage tanks of 10 million cubic metres in capacity, five petrochemical plants with 90,000 bpsd minimum processing capacity, jetties, and port infrastructure. There are also transport, settlement, and utilities prospects among others.

The Petroleum Hub Development is expected to provide over 780,000 direct and indirect jobs for the people of Jomoro and Ghanaians in general.

The CBOD Energy Policy Townhall will also feature energy sector representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday, 16th October 2024
