The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Dr. Toni Aubynn, has announced plans to roll out a comprehensive training program for the youth of Jomoro as part of preparations for the upcoming Petroleum Hub project.
This initiative, he explained, is in fulfillment of his commitment to prioritize the recruitment of local youth for the project. Speaking during a stakeholder engagement with chiefs and youth from affected communities on Friday, April 11, 2025, Dr. Aubynn disclosed that the training program will equip participants with essential technical skills required during the construction phase of the project.
“The PHDC will soon launch a series of training sessions focused on key areas such as fabrication and pipe laying, among others,” he stated. “The goal is to ensure that the youth of Jomoro are well-prepared and positioned to take advantage of employment opportunities the project will create.”
Dr. Aubynn emphasized that the training will be conducted both locally and internationally, with a focus on practical skills development. He also reaffirmed President John Mahama’s directive to make Jomoro youth the first line of consideration for job placements related to the hub.
“It is President Mahama’s firm directive that the youth of Jomoro benefit directly from this project,” he said. “We cannot wait until the project commences before identifying skilled personnel. That is why my team and I have outlined a training roadmap, which will be unveiled in the coming days.”
His announcement was met with enthusiastic applause from attendees, many of whom expressed optimism about the opportunities the initiative promises.
Dr. Aubynn further appealed to traditional leaders and residents of Jomoro to support the Petroleum Hub project, emphasizing its potential to transform the district into one of Ghana’s most developed areas. He assured continuous engagement with local communities and stressed the importance of their support for the project’s long-term success.
Also present at the event were PHDC’s Deputy CEO for Operations and Technical, Onasis Rosely, and Deputy CEO for Finance and Administration, Halimatu Sadia Abdulai Abu. Mr. Rosely reiterated the government’s commitment to the development of Jomoro, describing the Petroleum Hub as a top national priority. Ms. Abdulai Abu assured participants that the PHDC is actively working to secure funding for the training programs and other critical components of the project.
