The Governing Board of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) has declared its overwhelming support for the management and expressed readiness to approve any activity or decision that will enable the team achieve its goal of commencing on-site activities this year.

Speaking at the end of a three-day board retreat on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Board Chairman Mr George Blay-Morkeh noted that board members are fully aligned with managementโ€™s declaration of 2026 as the โ€œYear of Actionโ€ and affirmed that the board will, in accordance with standard corporate practice, promptly approve decisions necessary to begin on-site work this year.

Mr Blay-Morkeh emphasised that the board is keenly aware of the high expectations of the people of Jomoro and Ghanaians at large for the PHDC to realise the Petroleum Hub dream and assured that the board will not relent in providing strong support and leadership to management.

โ€œThe board is the highest decision-making body of the Corporation, and no major activity can proceed without its approval. We recognise how passionate the President, the Minister, and the local people are about this project. We will not relent in our resolve to approve whatever needs to be approved to deliver tangible results,โ€ he said.

Mr Blay-Morkeh further explained that the ongoing work by the Corporation and the Lands Commission at the project site aligns with efforts to secure the land and ensure the project gets underway.

โ€œWe are aware that the Lands Commission is on site, handling necessary processes. All of this is aimed at expediting action, acquiring the land, and starting the project. As a board, we will do our utmost to prevent any delays or inertia on our part. We will also ensure that all relevant stakeholders are engaged and brought on board,โ€ he said.

Regarding the retreat, Mr Blay-Morkeh affirmed its value, noting that it gave board members deeper insight into the Corporationโ€™s activities and helped identify ways they can support management in advancing the project.

He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, for their unwavering determination to see the project through to fruition, assuring them that the board would not let them down.

He also commended the board members for their active participation throughout the three-day retreat and urged them to continue playing their roles in efforts to build the hub.

The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) was established under the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation Act, 2020 (Act 1053), to lead the development of a world-class petroleum and petrochemical hub in Ghana. About the Petroleum Hub Project

The Petroleum Hub Project, estimated at $60 billion, will be located in Jomoro, in Ghanaโ€™s Western Region. The hub will comprise: Three refineries with a total capacity of 900,000 barrels per stream day (BPSD),

Five petrochemical plants with a minimum capacity of 90,000 BPSD. Storage tanks with a cumulative capacity of 10 million cubic meters and at least two jetties to support import and export activities.

The project is poised to position Ghana as a leading petroleum and petrochemical hub in Africa, enhancing regional energy security and economic integration.
