The acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Dr. Toni Aubynn, has advanced his advocacy for Ghana’s Petroleum Hub project by engaging Chinese investors, positioning the project as the cornerstone of strengthened Ghana-China relations.

At the Wednesday, June 26 edition of the Ghana-China Business Summit, Dr. Aubynn who delivered a compelling speech on the theme “Harnessing Synergies in Energy and Infrastructure: Ghana’s Petroleum Hub as a Catalyst for Ghana-China Economic Cooperation, exhorted the minds of the Chinese investors to the Petroleum Hub project, stressing its transformative potential for Ghana and West Africa’s energy sector.

With eloquence and persuasion, Dr. Aubynn opened his speech by providing a comprehensive overview of the Petroleum Hub project and its diverse investment opportunities.

He then explored the historically robust bilateral relationship between Ghana and China, spotlighting landmark projects that exemplify this dynamic partnership. Dr. Aubynn cited the Ghana Gas project, Bui Dam, and other significant initiatives as symbols of the enduring and impactful Ghana-China alliance.

“China’s track record in energy, infrastructure, and industrial development is unmatched, and Ghana has been proud to partner with China as our top trading partner for over a decade,” he stated.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Aubynn issued a powerful call to action, urging Chinese investors present at the summit and beyond to embrace the Petroleum Hub project as a new emblem of the two nations’ storied relationship.

“Ghana and China share a common dream: economic transformation, energy security, and industrial development. The Petroleum Hub Project represents a platform to make that vision real, not just for Ghana but for the entire region,” he declared.

“Let us seize the moment to deepen Ghana-China cooperation anchored on energy infrastructure and innovation. Let us build the Petroleum Hub not just as an energy infrastructure but as a symbol of what our nations can achieve together,” he concluded.

Prior to the summit, Dr Toni Aubynn paid a working visit to the office of Mr. Alexander Chen, West and Central Africa Chief Representative of Sinohydro Corporation Limited, which is one of China’s leading construction firms.

Dr. Aubynn met with Alexander Chen and other senior officials of Sinohydro to explore potential collaboration and investment opportunities for the development of the Petroleum Hub.

The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) was established under the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation Act, 2020 (Act 1053) to lead the development of a world-class petroleum and petrochemical hub in Ghana. The hub is intended to serve the energy needs of the West African sub-region and the broader continent.

PHDC aims to promote innovation, research, and strategic infrastructure development to meet Africa’s growing demand for petroleum products and services. About the Petroleum Hub Project

The Petroleum Hub Project, estimated at $60 billion, will be located in Jomoro, in Ghana’s Western Region. The hub will comprise:

Three refineries with a total capacity of 900,000 barrels per stream day (BPSD),

Five petrochemical plants with a minimum capacity of 90,000 BPSD,

Storage tanks with a cumulative capacity of 10 million cubic meters,

And at least two jetties to support import and export activities.

The project is poised to position Ghana as a leading petroleum and petrochemical hub in Africa, enhancing regional energy security and economic integration.
