In line with Ghana’s 2026 tree planting exercise themed “tree for life,” the students and teaching staff of Half Assini Senior High (HASCO) joined hands to plant 500 new plants to enhance the school’s species on campus as part of sustainability efforts.
The students and staff who were excited by the exercise joined a high-powered delegation from the PHDC, led by Board Chairman George Blay Morkeh and the Chief Executive Officer, to participate in the government’s flagship afforestation initiative.
In a brief address at the start of the exercise on Friday, July 17, 2026, George Blay Morkeh stated that the Petroleum Hub project has a long-standing commitment to environmental safety, and that the board he chairs remains dedicated to supporting such initiatives.
He noted that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and local content participation are high priorities for the Corporation, and assured the people of Jomoro that the project will have a significant positive impact on their lives.
Dr Toni Aubynn shared a personal story, recounting how he once dreamt of attending HASCO but eventually studied at a different institution.
He encouraged the students not to lower their guard but to remain focused on their goals by studying hard and achieving excellent results that will propel them to tertiary education.
Dr Aubynn also urged the students to make environmental protection a habit, noting that PHDC, as an agency under the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, will continue to uphold sustainability and environmentally friendly principles.
Mr Issah Abubakari, Assistant Head of Administration at HASCO, commended PHDC for the initiative and thanked the board and management of the Corporation for their support.
He assured them that the school would take good care of the trees and ensure they are properly nurtured to beautify the school compound and contribute to the Make Ghana Green initiative.
He also requested PHDC, which Dr Toni Aubynn assured would be given due consideration.
Among the tree species planted were royal palm, mahogany, acacia, and others.
In the 2025 edition of the exercise, PHDC collaborated with Annor Adjaye Senior High School to plant over 300 trees within the school and the Ezinlibo community.
