Aย three-day strategic retreat for the management of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC)ย concluded with participants energised and fully prepared for an ambitious 2026, during which they aim to accelerate construction of the petroleum hub.
Held from Friday, December 12, to Sunday, December 14, 2025, the retreat provided a vital platform for management and departmental heads to review 2025 activities and establish clear goals and strategies for the year ahead.
Facilitated by renowned human resource management expert Jerome Rudolf Awortwe Abban, the sessions enabled in-depth discussions on departmental work plans and targets, refining them to align seamlessly with the corporationโs strategic pillars.
In his opening remarks, PHDC Chief Executive Officer Dr Toni Aubynn described the retreat as a cornerstone of the corporationโs annual activities, essential for reflective introspection on the past year and forward planning for what he anticipates will be a demanding and pivotal period.
Dr Aubynn underscored the critical contribution of every staff member across departments, emphasising that collective efforts are indispensable to realising the transformative ambition of bolstering Ghanaโs economy and securing its energy future through the hub project.
In his closing address, following three days of intensive deliberations, during which departmental work plans were rigorously scrutinised and refined, Deputy CEO for Operations and Technical, Mr. Onasis Rosely, praised participants for their varied and invaluable contributions to the retreatโs success.
He noted that management members departed with a renewed sense of purpose, clarity, and determination to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the coming year.
Mr Rosely also conveyed the PHDCโs sincere gratitude to Dr Jerome Abban for expertly facilitating the three-day session and offering insightful guidance on key matters.
Dr Abban, in turn, commended the participants for their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the retreat, expressing confidence that their commitment signals strong progress toward Ghanaโs vision of establishing a premier petroleum and petrochemical hub.
About the PHDC
The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) was established under the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation Act, 2020 (Act 1053) to lead the development of a world-class petroleum and petrochemical hub in Ghana. The hub is intended to serve the energy needs of the West African sub-region and the broader continent.
PHDC aims to promote innovation, research, and strategic infrastructure development to meet Africaโs growing demand for petroleum products and services. By creating an integrated petroleum value chain, the Corporation seeks to unlock economic opportunities, foster industrial growth, and create sustainable employment for Ghanaians and citizens across Africa.
About the Petroleum Hub Project
The Petroleum Hub Project, estimated at $60 billion, will be located in Jomoro, in Ghanaโs Western Region. The hub will comprise: Three refineries with a total capacity of 900,000 barrels per stream day (BPSD),
Five petrochemical plants with a minimum capacity of 90,000 BPSD. Storage tanks with a cumulative capacity of 10 million cubic meters and at least two jetties to support import and export activities.
The project is poised to position Ghana as a leading petroleum and petrochemical hub in Africa, enhancing regional energy security and economic integration.
