The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Toni Aubynn, has collaborated with the International Maritime Hospital on a breast and prostate cancer awareness and screening exercise for its staff.
The engagement, led by Dr Yaa Akyaa Boateng and her team, provided an opportunity for staff to gain valuable insights into cancer prevention, risk factors, early detection and the importance of regular screening.
In her presentation, Dr Boateng highlighted the importance of breast screening, explaining that women at average risk should begin discussing routine mammography with healthcare professionals around ages 40 to 45, depending on the applicable screening guidelines.
She also noted that breast cancer can be influenced by genetic factors, including family history and inherited gene mutations, as well as other risk factors. She encouraged women to be familiar with their breasts and seek medical attention when they notice unusual changes.
The exercise also incorporated prostate cancer education and screening, allowing male staff to learn about risk factors, warning signs and the importance of early medical assessment.
Speaking on the initiative, CEO Dr Toni Aubynn underscored the importance of staff wellbeing, noting that the Corporation’s commitment to institutional growth must also extend to the health and welfare of its workforce.
Dr Toni Aubynn concluded that PHDC remains committed to fostering a workplace culture that promotes health awareness, preventive care and employee wellbeing.
